Introduction

This exhibition will show the albums laid out on tables for viewing. The album pages can be turned throughout the duration of the exhibition. Different days shall show different views of the pages.

These albums would have to be protected in transparent glass. A tactile element of the exhibition can not be realised in this case.

I propose that certain photographs be scanned to a high quality and printed for mounting on walls. If this would not be possible, photographs of the album cages could be displayed. This would be a means of reproduction without damaging the samples.

The small leaflet/photobook proposed would be on sale as part of the exhibition. Containing small samples taken from various albums.

I would like to separate the albums into three sections.

  • A section showing Stokes’ holidays abroad

  • A section showing the photographs of Ireland

  • A section concentrating on portraits

  • To add some context, I would like to display the album containing the correspondence with “Mallinson’s Free-Lancing Services”

    • It is an interesting feature which shows that this collection of albums is more than any amatuer collection of albums.

  • The walls would have an information sheeting listing all 25 albums and titles with page count in chronological order
