Dorothy Stokes

  • Miss Dorothy Stokes was born in South Africa in 1898. She grew up in Dublin and died in December 1982 at the age of 84 years old.

  • Dorothy's father was a doctor in Dublin.

  • She worked at the Royal Irish Academy of Music (RIAM) where she taught piano.

  • The "Dorothy Stokes Cup" is a piano competition as part of Feis Ceoil festival.

  • Havelock Nelson (1917–1996) was a prominent Irish composer and conductor who trained under the tutelage of Stokes.

  • The National Photographic Archive (NPA) holds 25 albums belonging to Stokes which date from 1925 - 1953
